Our Origin Story
Two brothers happen to live in what may be the greatest location in America for starting a golf ball company: right in the middle of a golf course fairway.
Every day, a significant volume of golf balls fall from the sky, landing in their front yard, backyard, bushes, and everywhere in between.
Then one day, a golf ball hit one of the brothers in the head while he was minding his own business (pun intended). A light bulb went off. “Dude. We should sell all these golf balls.” Okay, that part may have been made up. No children were harmed in the making of Mason Golf. But don't let the facts get in the way of a great origin story.
What is true is that after a year of collecting golf balls from their yard, the brothers started thinking like entrepreneurs. If this many golf balls land in our yard... how many are landing in our neighbors' yards? So they started collecting those golf balls too, with the permission of their neighbors.
The idea was simple: recover great golf balls, clean them up, sort out the best ones, and sell them, giving them another round on the course. It's basically like gold dropping from the sky. We just have to pick it up. And just like that, Mason Golf was born.
Why the name Mason? It's a shared name — one brother's legal first name and the other's middle name, but neither actually go by the name Mason. It's a secret, just like a Mason. But seriously, their parents liked the name because it meant “builder.” They gave their children this shared name with the hope that one day they would build things together — ideas, projects, and maybe even companies — just as their parents have built multiple companies together as co-founders.
Turns out, the parents didn't have to wait very long. Mason Golf is the brothers' first company. Their inventory literally falls from the sky, their labor costs are suspiciously low, and their margins would make a private-equity firm jealous. More importantly, they're giving perfectly good golf balls another life instead of letting them sit forgotten in someone's backyard. Turning golf balls into gold — one bad shot at a time.
